Star Island is one of the Isles of Shoals that straddle the border between New Hampshire and Maine, approximately seven miles from the mainland. It is the largest of the four islands that are located in New Hampshire at 38 acres and the second largest overall, after Appledore Island.  In the 1600s, it was the busiest commercial fishing port on the East Coast. By 1715, a permanent settlement known as the Town of Gosport was established.
