Two of Burlington, Vermont’s most prominent religious instutions: Mount Saint Mary’s Convent and Saint Joseph’s Orphanage. Photographs were made over the course of a decade, while both buildings were in transition.
Saint Joseph’s orphanage closed in the early 1980s before it was purchased by developer in 2015. The building is now waterfront condos. The Sisters vacated Mount Saint Mary’s in 2020, and as of 2024 it will become part of the adjoining catholic school, Mater Christi.
