Conceal/Reveal
February 2016
Conceal/Reveal presented an alluring, video-based installation, created by Dana Heffern and Rebecca Weisman, in which a transparent surface was suspended from the ceiling, creating a platform for combined projected images of the surrounding architecture and live indigenous insects in a moving tapestry. Viewers were positioned below the still life, looking up from a bed of garden mulch into an oneiric realm of lights, worms, and dirt, breaking through the projected surface and swirling in a cosmic mix. Trapped between the microcosm and macrocosm, the viewer had to navigate his or her own role in the alien still life, thus immersed in a cycle of impermanence and layered levels of representation.
